Blog 6: English language challenges

I consider that my experience learning English at the University of Chile has been good, mainly because the teachers are willing to solve doubts, and also in the classes they constantly motivate us to speak in English and to pronounce new words, no matter if we make mistakes. In addition, the blogs were a nice activity to do, and I enjoyed writing the information requested. I also enjoyed visiting the blogs of the other classmates because it was very interesting to read what everyone wrote on your blogs. On the other hand, I consider that my biggest weaknesses in English are pronunciations and my poor English vocabulary. This is because I often forget how to pronounce some words, or I simply do not know how to do it, which makes me insecure when I have to speak . Also, not having great knowledge of the phrases commonly used in that dialect, I find it difficult to understand native audios and read texts in English. Therefore, it is necessary for me to start learning new words, their...

Blog 5: Changes to my study programme

Imagen
My plan of study this semester consists of 6 courses: Statistics II, Neurophysiology, Developmental Psychology I, Social Psychology I, Psychological Theories and Systems, and Psychopathology. Also, a communication skills course and an English course. Classes are held in the campus classrooms and also in the faculty building. In relation to this, the only thing I would change is that all the rooms where we have the classes have access to a stable internet to make it possible to record the classes. In addition, it is necessary that they have better lighting that allows a good visualization of the PowerPoint presented with the projectors belonging to each of the rooms. Regarding the workload, I only have complaints in 2 courses: The first one is Neurophysiology, because it is a very demanding branch, which has mandatory texts and videos to review for each class, and also activities that have to be solved every week in a portfolio. This generates an overload of work because of all...

Blog 4: Time travel to the past or future

Imagen
Although it sounds a bit far-fetched, if I had the possibility to travel back in time wherever I wanted, I would not hesitate to travel specifically to 15th century Scotland, that is, in the medieval times when castles were at their peak along with the presence of the valiant Highlanders.  The reason I would like to travel to that particular time and place is mainly because, several years ago, I read my first Scottish medieval novel, which started my love for reading and for that wonderful country.  With a fascinating and even magical way in which life inside the castles, guarded by loyal warriors who gave their lives to protect their people, was described. And also how the beautiful landscapes that characterized the surroundings of the castles are detailed. Despite this, I do not consider it an era in which I would like to stay and live for the rest of my life. This is because those times were characterized by the difficulties that existed in relation to the fact of bein...

Blog 3: My dream job

Imagen
Currently, I am in my second year of my Psychology career, so I am still not clear about what specialty or field I want to focus on, it is a decision that I have not yet been able to make. That's why I don't have a clear vision of what my dream job would be. The only thing that is clear to me is that I want to work in something that I like, that fills my soul and makes me get up every day with courage to go to my workplace. My dream job is one in which I can practice psychology, but without being tied to any specific place. I want to be able to decide at any time to change city, region or even plan a trip abroad. I don't want to limit myself to one way of life, life is too short not to enjoy it to the fullest.  Therefore, it is clear to me that I will need to develop several skills, both in relation to my career, with the completion of theoretical and technical specialization courses, as well as skills that will help me to face new experiences, especially those that will he...

Blog 2: The best holidays ever

My best vacation happened in February 2020, just before covid-19 arrived in our country. That summer I traveled to the Valparaíso region, with my mom, her partner, my sister and my brother-in-law. Specifically I visited the city of Quintero and the towns of Loncura and Horcón,. It was a short family trip since we could only go for 10 days, but I assure you that we enjoyed every day to the fullest. Each day we planned what activities we would do during the day. We visited many beautiful places such as the Municipal Park of Quintero, the bridge of desires in Caleta Horcón, Los enamorados beach, Las Conchitas beach and Loncura beach. We also went to craft fairs and parks with various family games such as throwing a hoop at the bottle to win a stuffed animal. And then in the late afternoon we returned to the place where we rented to start our evenings of board games and family conversations along with some food to snack on. The reason that it is my favorite vacation is that it was truly a ...

Blog 1: A country you would like to visit.

Imagen
One of my biggest dreams is to be able to visit and get to know Scotland, a country located in the Midwest of Europe whose capital is the city of Edinburgh. It is also one of the four countries that are part of the United Kingdom, along with Wales, England, and Northern Ireland.  The reason for wanting to go to Scotland is that I am fascinated by its architecture, its culture, its landscapes, its history and above all its monuments and castles. Among which I can highlight the monument of the well-known Scottish warrior William Wallace and the castle of Eilean Donan, which are the places I definitely want to visit the day I have the opportunity to travel to that beautiful country. I would also like to go to the Highland Games, which are events that take place throughout the year to celebrate the Scottish and Celtic cultures. And which are also organized around traditional Highland sports, including Highland music and dancing, as well as lots of fun for the whole family, with food an...

Series that you would recommend

Imagen
One of the series that has really captivated me has been "Anne with an E," which is an adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery's books. This Canadian series, comprised of 3 seasons with 27 episodes in total, was created by Moira Walley-Beckett and produced by Northwood Anne, Northwood Entertainment and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. This story begins when siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan boy to help them work on their farm in Green Gables, just outside the town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. However, when Matthew arrives at the train station to pick up the orphan boy, he realizes that the orphanage has made a mistake, as there is only one red-haired girl named Anne Shirley in the place. At first Marilla is not convinced to adopt her, as they needed someone who could work on the farm, and she was too skinny for that, but over time Anne wins her affection, so she can start this new life in a real home.  Even if in the first chapters it may...
