Blog 4: Time travel to the past or future

Although it sounds a bit far-fetched, if I had the possibility to travel back in time wherever I wanted, I would not hesitate to travel specifically to 15th century Scotland, that is, in the medieval times when castles were at their peak along with the presence of the valiant Highlanders. 

The reason I would like to travel to that particular time and place is mainly because, several years ago, I read my first Scottish medieval novel, which started my love for reading and for that wonderful country. With a fascinating and even magical way in which life inside the castles, guarded by loyal warriors who gave their lives to protect their people, was described. And also how the beautiful landscapes that characterized the surroundings of the castles are detailed.

Despite this, I do not consider it an era in which I would like to stay and live for the rest of my life. This is because those times were characterized by the difficulties that existed in relation to the fact of being a woman, without a male figure in charge of her protection. At that time, a woman had no greater value than to become a good wife, in order to procreate and raise children, something that is not so far from the more conservative thoughts of our society today, but it was much more emphasized. That's why I think it would make things very difficult for me, since, as we will know, real life is not like in the movies and books, it is harder, which means that I would need to get a husband to have a more secure life, something that I absolutely would not want to do under duress.
